Call for Nominations: Cambridge/ILTA Distinguished Achievement Award


On behalf of the International Language Testing Association (ILTA), the selection committee is pleased to invite nominations for the Cambridge /ILTA Distinguished Achievement Award. ILTA members are invited to nominate individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of language testing.


If the committee finds a qualified candidate, the award will be presented at LTRC 2018, to be held in Auckland, New Zealand in July 2018.


Purpose of the award:

To acknowledge distinguished service and/or scholarship in the field of Language Testing.


The award:

An award of £1,000 and a framed certificate to be presented at the annual LTRC.

The language tester so honoured will be invited to deliver a plenary lecture at the LTRC at which the award is presented, with return economy airfare and up to four nights’ accommodation paid for by Cambridge English Language Assessment, and conference registration and banquet costs provided by ILTA.


Criteria for the award:

The recipient is selected according to evidence of the following kinds:

  • Extensive, inspirational academic, professional, and/or administrative leadership in the field of Language Testing
  • Valuable research and scholarship in Language Testing  
  • Mentoring of students and/or young scholars into the field of Language Testing
  • Active engagement in the practice of developing and using language tests
  • Being an active member of the Language Testing community currently or recently  (i.e., within the last 10 years)


The award can be made posthumously, to a nominee who has died since the last award was made. 


Nominating procedure:

Your nomination should describe the nominee’s contributions to the field and provide a rationale for nominating this person.  If the nominee has an informative personal webpage, the URL should be given. You should also provide the nominee’s contact information, including an e-mail address.


The deadline for nominations is two months after this call is posted, that is 31 January 2018.
